The Saucers Challenge 'Intelligent Design'

The Saucers have decided to act out against the fundamentalists who challenge evolution and want 'intelligent design' added to science curriculums in school. Even our President thinks 'both sides should be taught equally', but we don't agree. That is why we've just finished recording our latest track on the subject, "Intelligence Resigns".

Don't let the 'fundies' get the upper hand! Have a listen to our new track (which features Mer and Touch RAPPING for the first time on tape!!) and forward the link to all the free thinkers you know. The track can be heard on our myspace page http://www.myspace.com/thesaucers

Peace, Love and Stay Sexy!

A thousand apologies to the Denver Firestone for criticizing their alignment job when it was just the wind.

But, to go back and explain - The Saucers experienced a "BLOWOUT!" while climbing the rockies that left the suburban with its ass hanging out in the right lane as Touch and Kevy furiously put on the spare tire which was slightly larger than the other three. So, The Saucers continued their drive back to Denver in a constant wheelie. Our friends at Firestone sent us off with four new tires and a phony story about a screw puncturing the wheel when anyone could see that this tire just blew up.

Colorado was great fun - we played at a bunch of incredible venues including
Larimer Lounge - http://www.larimerlounge.com - home to all your favorite indie rock gods. We played on the front end of a Mint Records showcase including The Buttless Chaps and Carolyn Mark - http://www.mintrecords.com. We also had the pleasure of hearing Fiddler Records artist, Poulain - http://www.poulain.com.

Then we moved on to do two shows with a truly inspiring female artist - Liza and the Soul Stars. Miss Liza is probably the only female I've seen with serious guitar chops, great voice and songwriting, not to mention stunning beauty, seriously, she's got it all - http://www.lizarocks.com.

She was kind enough to include us on her bill at the Fox Theatre in Boulder, CO - the best venue any band could ever hope to play - http://www.foxtheatre.com. Many thanks to Christina, Chris, Mom the Stage Manager, Touch's old friend, Kiko, and of course, TJ and Cristin for making it an amazing experience for us.

We played at a basement-style venue (our favorite kind) the next night at The Blue Mule, and if all goes according to plan, we'll be there again, on our way out to California this summer - http://www.denverbluemule.com.

And now, we are on to the far west corner of the tour - tonight, RENO. We are headed due West on Rte. 80, and this is where the alignment comes in. As we left Colorado, we thought the car was pulling drastically right, but when we pulled off the highway and changed direction, suddenly it was pulling drastically left. Turns out it was just the wind. This is the straightest straightaway you've ever seen and this car requires no steering at all. Denver Firestone - we're sorry we called to complain about the alignment - great job! But that was just our way for paying you back for the bullshit about the screw in the tire.

I also just realized that we forgot to thank our amazing waitress, JADE, in Chicago for being the friendliest person on earth. Check the messageboard next week for her pic and others from the tour.

We're driving right now on a stretch of highway in Nebraska that is so straight and flat that you could put on the cruise control and go to sleep. A train over a mile long is passing us along the highway carrying coal. In a few hours we will change time zones again and leave our new favorite part of the country - the midwest.

We had a great show at Nevins - www.nevinslive.com - in Evanston, IL. Many thanks to Brad and Pete for helping us out and hanging with us. Also to Revelator for letting their friends hang out to catch our set.

Then we moved on up to Minneapolis to pop in and visit our friends at T'box and while we were there, we explored St. Paul by dropping in on a fab house party at an artist's co-op. A million thank yous to Hanz Solo and Dear Jupiter for feeding us krispy kremes and letting us do a set.

we headed back to our favorite mid-western city, Madison, WI to play at the Stage Door at the Orpheum Theatre - www.orpheumtheatre.net. This is a new venue that they are trying to develop - it's very cool - they still show movies there, so it is complete with padded seats and a balcony as well as a screen behind the stage. Thanks to Pete for giving us a chance, and thanks to Ben, Dave, Leah, and Alicia for coming out to see us. Awesome sets by The Apologists and If Then Else.

But, now we come to the best show of the tour so far. Oddly enough it was an open jam that we stumbled on in Des Moines, IA at Orlondo's. The incredible Maxx G allowed us to come up and rock for the greatest crowd any visiting rock band could hope to encounter. Maxx and the other members of his band have toured the world over with countless huge names and are cool enough to keep a regular jam going to give others a chance to do their thing. Thanks to Ben and his dad for playing my favorite Outfield song, to his sister for buying up the tee-shirts and just being generally cool, and to Dawn our waitress for keeping the pitchers flowing. We will be back.

So we stopped in Lincoln, NE last night and took a night off to prepare for tonights show at the Larimer Lounge in Denver. The weather is supposed to be fine and if we're feeling extra stupid, we'll rent some skis and hit the slopes.

More news very soon.

So, here's the Saucer's first NEWS update from the road:

We've got 3 days off here in Chicago to catch up on the website, (and sleep). There's been lots of driving, and plenty of partying. We want to thank all the other bands that have been so awesome to us so far! In Cincinnati it was Tuesday Conspiracy (http://www.tuesdayconspiracy.com), and Norust. The sound guy even posted a rather flattering review of our show here (mighty kind words from a metalhead)...
Madison and Milwaukee were great shows. We met our new best friends Mabel (www.mabeltheband.com). We got to party with these guys after both shows, and saw 2 sunrises with Dan and Hans. Who knew the Saucers stayed up so late? Must be the time-zone change...
Mad Planet in Milwaukee (best sound system in town) was great because ALL the bands rocked! Johnny Toymaker (thanks for not smashing my guitar), and Telectro were awesome.
We were even able to link up with our old pals Planeside (www.planeside.com) last night in Chicago while they're passing through here on tour as well. Again, we stayed up until dawn banging out tunes from Queens of the Stone Age, in preparation for our tribute band Regular John. Come check us out at the Red Lion when we return to NYC!

Well, that's it for now. We're taking a siesta...PEACE!

Commercial Radio Play. That's news. Did you ever see that movie about the country song writers with River Phoenix and the girl that looks like Winona Ryder? And their friend hears his song on the radio and crashes into the car in front of him? That didn't happen to us. But, someone told us that we were on the radio, and we were excited.

Check it out - WPLR

This is the classic rock station for most of CT (except where we live, where it comes in sporadically). We are sharing air space with our heroes such as Kiss, Led Zep, and you know what I mean.

If you are looking for something to do, please call them and request that they play us again - 203-882-WPLR or 1-877-R-NICKEL (toll free).

The 24 hour marathon is complete, but the contest is still undecided, so we'll give you a taste so you can decide for yourselves. We stayed up all night on Friday working with the incredible Bubbles & Pickles Entertainment Conglomerate to create music for "Mocha ", a 70s inspired tale of mystery surrounding the premise of an "unwanted gift". Click here to listen to Mocha's theme song as well as the instrumentals that accompanied the telling of her sordid past (don't miss Touch banging on the wine bottles and Tito Puento whistles).
